Life as we knew it is at a standstill with the current outbreak of COVID-19. Wherever you live right now you are having to prepare for the worst-case scenario outcomes. Whether you have lost your job, know of someone who has contracted the virus or you are living in fear this doesn’t have an end in sight.

We have to collectively make active changes to help fight the virus and help support others’ well-being. When we act out of fear we make poor choices that can have a greater impact on everyone around us. This goes for everything in life, not just the time we are facing at this moment.

This shall pass...

The one thing I know we can control is finding ways to cope with the new reality we are faced with today. I have my good days and bad days, it is an emotional rollercoaster. The irony is I have wanted a slower lifestyle for many years now. I have been asking for life to slow down, traffic to stop, people to act out of kindness, spend less money on useless items, and to connect with friends and family more frequently. I just never expected it to happen in the way it is right now.

12 Tips to Stay Balanced

1.Gratitude. We can always find ways to be grateful, it lifts your inner vibration and mindset. This is a choice everyone can choose each day. It is the simple things in life we take for granted like having coffee at home each day.

2. Organize. How often do you get endless amounts of time to stay home? Take advantage of it! Try to choose a room to organize and declutter each week to focus on. You will feel much better about your space you are stuck in for the coming weeks.

3. Laughter. Do your best to find humor each day by watching funny videos, happy movies, or call a friend to reminisce about something that makes you laugh. Even when life throws you a curveball continue to find a way to keep your spirits high, after all, it is the one thing you can control.

4. Hydrate. Keeping your body healthy during this time is one of the key ingredients to maintaining your health. Try to switch it up with lemon water in the mornings instead of coffee, drink calming tea at night, and drink 8-ounce of water a day.

5. Meal planning. Have you been meal planning in advance now that you have to stock up on groceries? Consider Pinterest your best friend right now, or ask family and friends to help swap ideas. Find a way to make this a fun experience! My friends and I started sharing a recipe board to help each out, it is a fun way to collaborate.

6. Self-Care. A lot of women pride themselves with the routines we put ourselves through with beauty regimes. Currently, with a lot of salons closed, there is a panic happening. The good news is you can modify your routine with at-home products. A few ideas you can paint your nails, homemade face masks, hair mask, take a bath with Epson salt or with a bath bomb. There are endless ideas how to maintain your beauty routine at home.

7. Daily to-do list. Keep yourself on track, even if the tasks are small try to maintain a positive focus. Decide to post it where you can see it every day, either on your fridge, office or even your bathroom. mirror.  It could be something simple like take your vitamins, sanitize your home, organize, exercise, and call a friend. Keeping a routine in a state of stress can help keep your mind focused on other things.

8. Excercise. If you are on social media you will see everyone is making home workout and yoga videos. Reach out to your local gym or yoga studio to see what they are offering as an online course. You can still exercise at home to keep your body moving while supporting small businesses. Take a walk outside if you live in a safe place (keeping your distance) to get fresh air. 

9. Relationships. Use this time to build deeper connections with your loved ones. You can start group text threads, create a virtual coffee chat, happy hour, or start an online book club. Let’s not forget about your furry friends they need love right now too.

10. Read a book. How often do you say “I don’t have time to read a book”? Well here is your chance! If you find a way to relax your mind at night you will sleep easier, and often times reading helps calm the monkey brain.

11. Meditate. You can find plenty of videos online, or the Calm app is a great resource. It is important to keep your mind healthy to lower stress during this time.

12. Get Dressed. It might be tough to get out of your PJs every morning, because where are you going to go right? However, you need to get dressed and continue to start each day as normal as possible to stay productive.
